Because It's a Journey that Matters
Because it’s a journey that matters, it’s worth planning your journey before it begins.
It’s never too early to start composing your next act. Realistically though, for most people, some time in their late 40’s to early 60’s is when they’ll start hearing the siren call.
So why start thinking about your next act sooner rather than later?
Because there’s a lot to think about. Life changes dramatically when we leave a lifetime of work behind. For many of us, it’s the first time in our lives we experience a real sense of freedom. But freedom can soon become an unwanted gift if you have no sense of purpose, no navigation points for the new journey you’re on. That can mean disorientation and a waste of precious time and energy on a bumpy, ugly path to nowhere. Yikes!
If that’s not reason enough to plan ahead, consider that having a compelling vision to strive for may positively affect the remaining years of your career as you clarify the legacy you want to leave. Remember too that you may be unexpectedly “retired early” on someone else’s timetable. With a plan in your pocket, pivoting from that will be a lot easier on many levels.
If you tend to procrastinate when it comes to things like taking stock, planning, goal setting or visioning, I urge you seek help. On the money side, start with your financial advisor and a long-term projection of the lifestyle you can support. On the visioning, lifestyle, what’s my purpose side, there are books, podcasts, apps, etc. for all you DIY’ers.
If you want more personal guidance to help you go deeper AND an accountability partner to push you through procrastination, coaches like me are a great option. I’d love to get you started.
